The method · New Client Assessment & Treatment

The test determines the treatment.

Every session at Holistic Muscle Therapy runs on one loop: establish a baseline, apply a precise input, retest against the original measure. Nothing is assumed — your response decides what comes next.

The loop

Assess → Treat → Reassess

The session begins with a baseline. Interventions are selected according to the pattern found, not by habit. The original test is repeated so the response determines what stays, what changes, and what comes next.

  1. Assess.

History and goals first, then testing — the relationships most relevant to your movement problem, measured so change can be seen rather than guessed at.

  2. Treat.

One or more interventions chosen for the pattern the baseline revealed. The smallest useful input, applied precisely.

  3. Reassess.

The original test, repeated immediately. Better, unchanged, or worse is information — and it directs the plan.

The baseline

What may be tested

Range of motion, gait, breathing, posture, rotation, balance, footwear, strength, and task-specific movement may be used to establish a baseline — the reference every result is judged against.

  • Range of motion
  • Gait
  • Breathing
  • Posture
  • Rotation
  • Balance
  • Footwear
  • Strength
  • Task-specific movement

The working principles

  • Assess before you address.
  • The test determines the treatment. The retest determines what comes next.
  • Lighter goes deeper.
  • Better, unchanged, or worse is information.
  • Autonomy over dependency — build capacity rather than reliance on endless care.
  • Refer out when another provider is the right next step.

The toolbox

What the work may include

What is used depends on what the assessment finds — never a standard routine.

Functional movement assessment

Joint-by-joint testing of the ranges and relationships your problem actually uses.

Manual therapy

Hands-on work selected for the pattern found — precision over pressure.

Neuromuscular work

Focused work on the interaction between nerves and muscles, including trigger-point and tension patterns.

Breathing and positioning

The ribcage moves twenty thousand times a day; when it participates, everything attached to it changes.

Joint-specific mobility

Training usable, controlled range — not just passive flexibility.

Gait assessment and retraining

Walking strategy, pressure distribution, and the reciprocal pattern between hips, ribcage, and arms.

Footwear testing

Shoes are tested by what they change in your movement, not just how they feel.

Movement education

You leave understanding what was found and why the chosen input mattered.

Progressive loading

Capacity is built gradually, matched to what each retest supports.

Individualized home programming

A small number of precise drills — not a generic sheet of twenty.

Virtual assessment and coaching

Guided self-assessment and coaching by video when in-person isn't practical.

Who this is for

You don't need a perfect diagnosis to start.

What matters is a willingness to participate, communicate honestly, and let your response guide the plan. When another provider or a diagnostic workup is the better next step, Alexander says so and refers out.

Alexander does not diagnose medical conditions and refers clients to an appropriate licensed healthcare professional when evaluation or treatment falls outside his professional scope.

This work is for people dealing with

  • Recurring pain, tightness, or guarding
  • Movement restrictions that keep returning
  • Difficulty walking, training, working, or returning to activity
  • Persistent compensation after injury or surgery
  • Shoulder, hip, knee, foot, back, or neck limitations
  • Hypermobility that needs control and capacity
  • Performance limitations that may involve more than the painful area
  • Multiple previous approaches without a clear explanation or plan

Sessions & pricing

Start here, then follow the evidence.

Every new client begins with the same appointment. Follow-up formats exist so the plan can match what the retest supports — nothing is prescribed before the baseline exists.

After your assessment

  • Focused Follow-Up60 minutes · $175
  • Extended Follow-Up90 minutes · $250
  • Comprehensive Session120 minutes · $350

The right follow-up format is chosen with you after the assessment, based on what your retest supports. Virtual assessment and coaching are available — see how virtual works.
